What’s New-Forever Taking Leave – Pavia Gallery April-June 2023

It is with great pride that we are presenting our first official exhibition of new work at PAVIA Gallery since March of 2020! Artist Ian McKinnon’s exhibition, titled, “Forever Taking Leave”.

Ian McKinnon is a Halifax-based artist whose background is in painting with an extended practice in drawing. He earned a BFA from NSCAD (1980); a MFA from Concordia (1997), and a Master of Theological Studies from Trinity College, University  of Toronto (2011.) Ian taught drawing at NSCAD University in the Foundation Division from 2003 – 2020.

From 2014 to 2017 Ian was Parish Artist-in-Residence at St. Paul’s Anglican Church (Halifax, Nova Scotia) where – besides pursuing his own work in a studio provided by the parish – he also established an exhibition program within the worship space of the historic church, curating and writing about other artists’ work.

Beginning in 2018 a project culminated in a drawing series, titled Still/Life, comprising over 150 individual drawings from direct observation of everyday objects. This exhibition contains some of the best works that have been created since the inception of the project!
